LEONARD FOX

Leonard Charles Fox, 50, died May 31, 2011.
Funeral services were June 4 at Old King Solomon M.B. Church with Rev. Benjamin Hall Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Cypress Gardens under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Fox was born Dec. 18, 1960 to Mose Fox Sr. and Ella Mae Newkirk Fox. After graduating from Yazoo City High School in 1978 he worked for McCarty Farms and later drove a school bus for Yazoo City Public Schools.
Survivors include two children, Heather Griffin and William Jackson, both of Yazoo City; three grandchildren, Keshonna Griffin, James Cole and Jacavious Lee; six brothers, Moses Fox Jr. (Katherine), Haword Fox Sr. (Sarah), William Fox Sr. (Pollyanna), Andre Fox Sr. (Terry), Frederick Fox Sr.  and Patrick Fox Sr. (Zsa Zsa); six sisters, Lorrena Spires (Tommie), Carolyn Grayson (Joe), Bettye Fox, Ella Rose Fox (Ricky) Precious Powell and Jacqueline Alexander (Curtis); and a host of other relatives and friends.

MARGRETTE GLENN

Margrette P. Glenn, 94, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Martha Coker Green Houses.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Belzoni City Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mrs. Glenn was born Sept. 2, 1916 in Humphreys County to Robert Lee Pritchard and Sarah Francis Wigley Pritchard. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan Glenn; two children, two grandchildren and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Elinor Upchurch of Bentonia and Ann Haskins of Pearl; five sons, Raymond Glenn of Yazoo City, Tommy Lee Glenn of Holly Bluff, Warren Glenn of Bentonia, Ben Glenn of Holly Bluff and Terry Glenn of Overland Park, Kansas; a sister, Mary Gershuny; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were David Glenn, Justin Haskins, Troy Glenn, Chris Davis, Mark Haskins, Todd Glenn, Barrett Norman and Bryan Davis.

JACK HOLLINS

Le Andrew “Jack” Hollins, 90, died May 28, 2011.
Funeral services were Sunday at Chapel Hill M.B. Church with Rev. Johnny Dodd officiating. Services were under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. Hollins was born March 26, 1921 in Yazoo County to Dumas and Elnora Smith Hollins. He worked for over 30 years at Public Service before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Chapel Hill M.B. Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Hollins of Yazoo City; six children, Westley E. Hollins of Flora, Earnestine Young (Revell Sr.) and Henry George O’Reily, both of Yazoo City, Larry Newlon (Karen) of Hazlehurst, Patsy Clay (Ricky) of Yazoo City and Marilyn Robinson Jackson (Charles) of Jackson; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

CHESTER JOHNSON

Chester Johnson, 87, died May 21, 2011.
Funeral services were May 28 at St. Matthew Church of God in Christ with Rev. Charlie Jones officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Garden under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was born June 9, 1923 in Yazoo County to Hardy and Elsie Johnson. He grew up in the Kinkaid community and was a member of New Pilgrim Rest Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Johnson; sisters, Carrie Jackson and Lucy Johnson; and brothers, Arthur Johnson and Ernest Johnson.
Survivors include his son, Terry Harris (LaTrice), stepson, Charlie Burnside (Arnell); sisters, Ora Lee Thornton of Arcola and Mazzie B. Hampton of Altadena, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Fritzell Casey, Charlie Burnside, Maurice Johnson, Marlon “Tute” Casey, Mark Casey and Jeff Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Carl Johnson, Melvin Johnson, James Johnson, Bend Johnson, Lovell Flemming and Walter James Johnson Jr.

SANDRA JONES

Sandra Lavern Johnson-Jones, 43, died Monday, May 23, 2011.
Funeral services were  May 31 at Mt. Calvary Christian Center Ministries with Apostle John Williams officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Scott Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones was born April 18, 1968 in Vicksburg to Mary Johnson and the late Lottie Goodman. She was the owner of Sandra’s Kid’s Korner and Aftercare and a member of New Mt. Calvary Christian Center.
Survivors include her children, Toniesha of Yazoo City and Tony. Jr. and Tonia of Clinton; mother, Mary Burns Johnson of Vicksburg; sisters, Sharon Freeman (Joe), Angela Johnson, Dr. Keisha Johnson, Trivanda Johnson, Toshecka Johnson and Rolanda Grayer; brother, Jessie James Johnson; two grandchildren, Chania Tamia Gates and Teyana Saniya Waters; and a host of other relatives and friends.

WILLIAM OLDHAM

William Taylor Oldham, 100, of Mechanicsburg died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Skipper Maxwell and Rev. Danny Duggan officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mr. Oldham was born Aug. 27, 1910 in Mechanicsburg to Samuel Y. and Mattie B. Mansfield Oldham. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired welder and a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Latimer Pettis; and five sisters, Jessie Martin, Mabel Daniel, Arneal Germany and Thelma Hilderbrand.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Pettis (Billy) of Bentonia; three grandsons, James Lee Pettis (Angela), William Durwood Pettis (Marilyn) and Jimmy Wayne Pettis (Susan), all of Bentonia; eight great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and two great-great granddaughters.
Serving as pallbearers were Sidney Potter, Walter Smith, Josh Sadler, Pat Ramsey, Felix Sadler and Paul Massey.
Honorary pallbearers were Lamar Sibley, Dwight Sibley and Calvin Sibley.

ANNIE REDMOND

Annie Lizzie Redmond, 87, died May 18, 2011.
Funeral services were May 28 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Dennis officiating.
Mrs. Redmond was born Aug. 24, 1924 in Belzoni to the late Rev. Vanderbilt and Florence Robinson. She worked as a presser, drove the Yazoo County library bookmobile, and was known as the “Avon Lady” of Yazoo City. She was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roosevelt; and her siblings, Vanderbilt Jr., Alberta, Otha Lee, Otha B, Louise and Priscilla.
Survivors include her children, Catherine and Nathaniel Jr.; adopted son, George M. Bryant; 12 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Eugene Redmond, Quinn Lymas, Thomas Carl Jones, Corey Redmond, Nathan Redmond and Quincey Jones.

CHARLES SUTTERFIELD

Charles R. Sutterfield, 54, died May 31, 2011 at Madison River Oaks Hospital in Canton.
Funeral services were June 3 at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Sutterfield was born Dec. 12, 1956 in Yazoo County to Thomas M. and Lucy Hogan Sutterfield. He was a project manager at Lake Caroline.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Sutterfield; and a brother, Larry Sutterfield.
Survivors include his wife, Tricia Denise Sutterfield of Canton; two daughters, Emily K. Sutterfield of Benton and Allison Rae Sutterfield of Ridgeland; a stepdaughter, Amie White of Canton; stepson, Blain White; two granddaughters, Emilia Crozier and Minley Faith Crozier; a grandson, Marico Crozier Jr.; a brother, Gary Sutterfield, sister, Linda Sutterfield and his mother, Lucy Sutterfield.

LYNN WARD

Lynn “Jan” Ward, 59, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at her home in Anguilla.
Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Chapel in Rolling Fork with Rev. Norman Maranio officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery in Anguilla under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ward was born in Rolling Fork and lived in Anguilla most of her life. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of St. Bayou Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry E. Stevens and Gladys Brooks Stevens.
Survivors include her husband, Travis Ward of Anguilla; a son, Chris “Boo” Ward of Bentonia; a daughter, Pennye Ward of Anguilla; and a sister, Brenda Brown of West.
Serving as pallbearers are Mark Humphries, Gerald Brown, Bobby Stevens, Billy Eldridge, Ben Eldridge and Jason Arender.
