JOHN GOOCH
John E. Gooch, 86, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Funeral services were Saturday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Father Danny Williams officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Gooch was born Aug. 21, 1924 in Yazoo City to Eugene and Rose Fahey Gooch. He attended St. Clara Academy, Millsaps College, Notre Dame University and the University of New Mexico.
He served in the Eigth Air Force as a B17 pilot in World War II and completed 25 successful missions. He was involved in the lumber industry for over 50 years in Mississippi and Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Larue Stribling Gooch; and a grandson, Spencer Gooch.
Survivors include his son, John Gooch (Vivian) of Madison; two daughters, Cissie Sanford of Benton and Ellen Voris (Ed) of Bedford, Ind.; grandchildren, Kae Jonson of Benton, La., Stephen Turgi of Baltimore, Md., B.J. Sanford of Bossier City, La., Beth Parks (Brent) of Thornton, Colo., Sarah McCrary (James) of Baton Rouge, La., Leigh Ann Patterson (Jason) of Jackson, Robert Sanford (Jenny) of Benton, La., Sunny Holliday (Hunter) of Jackson and Michael Ware of Bedford, Ind.; and 14 great-grandchildren, Katie, Sam, Rachael, Miles, Emma, Jackson, Abby, Rebekah, Hunter, Laney, Joel, Preston, Peyton and Bella.
Serving as pallbearers were B.J. Sanford, Michael Ware, John Simmons, Robert Sanford, Hunter Holliday, Bill Simmons and Kenny Hall.
MALCOLM GORDON
James Malcolm Gordon, 65, died Saturday, May 14, 2011.
Funeral services were Monday at the Stricklin-King Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Caleb Clark officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Gordon was born Aug. 25, 1945 in Vicksburg to Hugh Edwin Gordon and Myrtrea Warnock Gordon. He was the owner of Malcolm’s Plumbing.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Gordon of Yazoo City; two daughters, Stacia Johnson (Chris) of Vicksburg and Tary Woods (Tony) of Yazoo City; a son, Spencer Gordon of Yazoo City; four brothers, Hugh E. Gordon Jr. of Brandon, Thomas Gordon of Yazoo City, Douglas Gordon of Jackson and Danny Gordon of Carthage; nine grandchildren, Gordon Downs, Dalton Downs, Macy Woods, Kaitlin Woods, Christian Gordon, Caleb Gordon, Madelynn Gordon, Mary-Ashlynne Gordon and Austin Gordon; and one great-grandchild, Natalee Downs.
Serving as pallbearers were Gordon Downs, Dalton Downs, Steve Gordon, Thomas Gordon Jr., Christian Gordon, Caleb Gordon and Clayton Gordon.
MADELYNN HANCOCK
Madelynn Cherie Hancock, one month, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at University Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were Saturday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Little and Rev. Joe Cole officiating. Burial followed at Bentonia Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Cherie Hancock.
Survivors include her parents, Justin and Miranda Hancock of Bentonia; two brothers, William Hancock and Eathen Hancock; maternal grandparents, Alonzo and Tabatha White of Carrollton and Shelley and James Whisentan of Lake; and paternal grandparents, Tommy and Flora Hancock of Bentonia.
Serving as pallbearers were Garrett Hancock, Jonathan Bates, Sterlin Hancock and Trey White.
JOSEPH HAWK
Joseph Phillip Hawk, 75, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at King’s Daughters Hospital.
Funeral services were Monday at Scotland Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Hawk was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Yazoo County to Walter and Ruth Helen Collins Hawk. He was a painter and a member of Scotland Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Hawk of Jackson; two daughters, Shannon Hawk of Colorado and Lynn Hawk; two grandchildren; and a niece, Mary Helen Campbell of Bentonia.
