Four named MAIS all-stars

JACKSON – The 2011 MAIS baseball All-Star games will feature four players from Yazoo County.

Benton Academy seniors Ryan Smith and John Philip Zeigler will represent the north in the Class A game while Manchester Academy’s Timothy Newman and Robert Hutton will play for Class AA-AAA north.

All four players earned All-Herald honors for the 2011 season. Both Smith and Hutton put up solid numbers at the plate their senior campaigns. Smith batted .517 with eight doubles, two triples five homeruns and 19 RBI. Hutton batted .395 with seven doubles, seven bombs and knocked home 33 RBI.

First pitch for the Class AA-AAA All-Stars is set for 2 p.m. while the Class A contest is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Both games will be played at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson May 27.
