Liberalism has failed miserably

Walter Patterson Herald ColumnistWalter Patterson Herald ColumnistLiberalism has failed.
Everyone seems to recognize this fact but the liberals. Oil prices are through the roof, and what does the Obama Administration do? They refuse to let the Shell Oil Company drill off the coast of Alaska.
The Environmental Protection Agency claims that drilling may damage the air quality in a village over 60 miles away from the drill site. Donald Trump is correct when he uses the word “stupid” to describe our politicians.
Inflation has begun to devalue our dollar. All of us will have a complete understanding of this shortly. Groceries will cost more. Gasoline will cost more. Products that require energy to produce will cost more. Health care will cost more. Can we all say a collective “Thank you, Mr. Obama?”
The current financial crisis was avoidable. However when Obama became president, he instituted what is called Keynesian Economics. This economic philosophy is based on the belief that if government spends enough money that the economy will correct itself. Today, we spend money we do not have, we print money, we borrow money from China, and any other place we can borrow, and still the economy continues to deteriorate.
The real unemployment rate continues to remain above 10 percent, and unemployment claims have continued to rise. Last week another 429,000 Americans lost their jobs.
Unemployment insurance is quickly running out for over 5 million Americans, and Wal-Mart has declared that its shoppers are “running out of money.”
“Crony” capitalism has now infested our economic system. This occurs when companies like General Electric are close friends with the President and his Administration. GE received millions of dollars from the U. S. Government to work on “green energy” solutions. Conservatives know that “green energy” is a code word for “socialism.”
Windmills will not solve our energy crisis. Windmills will not reduce the cost of a gallon of gasoline by one cent.
General Electric earned over $5 billion in profits last year, and paid not one cent in income taxes. What is wrong with this picture?
One of the clarion cries of the liberal is to shout from the highest mountain that the rich must “pay their fair share.” “Do away with the Bush tax cuts.” “The rich can afford to pay more.” If I were a liberal, I would be ashamed to repeat this mantra. Why? Because it exposes the liberal’s profound ignorance of economics. No educated rational person would ever repeat this complete nonsense.
For the last year, the corrupt mainstream press has been claiming that the U. S. economy is improving, that more jobs are available, and that inflation is not a problem.
Do you believe any of this?
A recent Rasmussen poll indicates that nearly 70 percent of the American people believe that the economy is growing worse and that the country is on the wrong track. Count me among the 70 percent. Look around you. The economy is in shambles. With gas prices nearly $4.00 per gallon, things are going to get worse. We are already in what economists call a “double-dip” recession, and if something is not done soon, we may slip into a depression. Already one in seven of our fellow Americans are on food stamps.
We have a short window of opportunity to cut federal spending drastically, outlaw “crony” capitalism, increase our oil production, and stop printing worthless money. If we don’t, the economy will do what it has done in Russia, Italy, France, and other countries consumed with socialism and the redistribution of wealth. It will collapse. You cannot break the laws of economics, and expect to improve your society. It has never worked. Liberalism is a pathetic scheme doomed to failure, but its consequences are dire. Unfortunately, our government has fallen into the hands of liberals the likes of which we have never seen before.
Will things get worse? You can bet the farm on that. When liberals are in charge, you should always expect the worst.

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor:
In the 6 April 2013 edition of The Yazoo Herald you published a letter from Cynthia Fuller, "Thanks to (Van) Foster for helping get bridge replaced."
After reading this lettter, I had the impression that the bridge was completed and traffic was moving along normally.
Wrong!  Last Sunday I was on my way to homecoming at Providence Baptist Church.  I turned north onto old 49 and saw the signs that the bridge was out.  I assumed that they hadn't gotten around to removing the signs.  I expected to cross Thompson Creek on the new bridge.  When I approached the creek the road was barricaded and construction equipment was down in the creek.
Perhaps The Herald can keep us updated as to the progress being made on the new bridge.
