Former Indian eyes championship

Brandon Hollins and the Braves will battle for their first ever SWAC baseball title starting May 18. Brandon Hollins and the Braves will battle for their first ever SWAC baseball title starting May 18.
Brandon Hollins has one more shot before his college career is finished. For the former Yazoo City four-sport athlete hopes to play for another Southwestern Athletic Conference championship later this month in Shreveport, La. Only this time he wants to be on the winning team.
“Alcorn has never won a SWAC championship,” Hollins said. “We’ve lost in that championship game the last two years. We’ve been banging on the door every year.”
This year, would arguably be his best shot as the Braves will be going into the tournament as the number one seed in the East Division after posting a dominating 19-4 conference record despite a brutal non-conference slate which included battles with Memphis, LSU, Alabama and Southern Mississippi.
“The level of competition was just so high in non-conference, the conference schedule was less grueling,” he said.------for the rest of this story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition-----
