Rob Cohea’s double in the bottom of the seventh inning proved to be the fatal blow for Winston Academy, sending the Mavericks into the playoffs Thursday night as Manchester bounced back from a seven run deficit to get the 9-8 win in game two of the double header.

The Mavericks won game one, 8-6 but needed two victories to move on.

“I have all the confidence in the world in them,” head coach AJ Downs said. “I told my kids it was going to be a long day. It was going to be a grind for 14 innings.”
