Yazoo City’s John Ingram qualified for the North State championships in powerlifting in March. Yazoo City’s John Ingram qualified for the North State championships in powerlifting in March. By DAN HAWTHORNE
Sports Editor

Sometimes moms know best. And for Yazoo City junior power lifter John Ingram, he’s glad he listened to his momma.
Ingram reached the North State finals for the first time this year in power lifting after qualifying with a third place finish at the regional. His combined weight of 1,080 pounds was enough to get him through. He would later get knocked out of the competition despite putting up better numbers in the dead lift, bench press and squat for a total of 1,125 pounds.
