OLA MAE CARTER
Ola Mae Carter, 58, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Emory Hospital in Decatur, Ga.
Funeral services were April 2 at Quofaloma M.B. Church in Tchula with Rev. Louis Young officiating. Burial followed at Horseshoe Cemetery in Tchula.
Mrs. Carter was born March 13, 1953 in Tchula to the late Woody and Callie Ethel Solomon. She attended Holmes County public schools and was a member of Quofaloma M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Carter; two brothers, Andrew and Joseph Solomon; and two sisters, Dora and Ethel Solomon.
Survivors include her children Patricia (Jonathan), and Terrance of Yazoo City, and Cynthia “Nikki” (Berkeley) and Jerry of Conyers, Ga.; two sisters, Lena Carter of Nashville, Tenn. and Martha Solomon of Tchula; brothers, T.L. Rias of Gainesville, Fla. and Henry Solomon of Yazoo City; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
ROOSEVELT HICKS
Funeral services were Saturday for Rev. Roosevelt Hicks, 84, at Ever Increasing Faith Church in Vaughan.
Elder Charles Jefferson officiated. Burial followed at Union Paradise Cemetery in Vaughan under the direction of Century Funeral Home.
Mr. Hicks was born Feb. 4, 1927 to the late Roosevelt Hicks Sr. and Josephine Coleman Hicks. He attended public schools in Copiah County . In 1981 he received his Minister’s License from the Church of God in Christ while a member of St. James COGIC in Vaughan. He received his Certificate of Ordination in 1991 at New Hope M.B. Chrch.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Korea and Japan. He served as a military police officer. He married Gwendolyn Faye Clark on March 13, 1964, and they were married for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Hicks.
Survivors include three daughters, Valeria Hicks of Vaughan, Vanessa McElroy (Eugene) of Marion, Ark. and Rena Hardy (Loyce) of Lawrence; a son, Kevin Hicks of Vaughan; a sister, Jimmy Lee Hicks of Gatesville; a brother, Ronnie Johnson; 12 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Demarco Hicks, Brian Brisco, Randy Williams, Eugene McElroy Sr., Timothy Boddy, Patrick Boddy, Loyce Hardy, Otis Lee Clark, Kevin Hicks, Ronnie Johnson and Earl Henry Clark.
Honorary pallbearers were Howard Clark Jr., Aaron Hicks and Mitchell Hardy.
