Building homes – and hearts

Ricky Helms takes a break from time to time to look over the progress of his new home.
He may not have wanted a new house. But a tornado made that decision for him.
“All of this was gone,” he said, sweeping his hand over his property. “The tornado was two miles wide when it got here.”
Helms then picks up a piece of lumber and makes his way over to the workers in front of his house on Powell Road. One would think Helms and the group are old friends, laughing as they reconstruct a life.
But many of them he just met the day before. It’s all part of the group’s mission...to love God, love others and serve others.
For a week, about 64 volunteers from Prairie Grove, Ark. have called Yazoo City their home. The mission trip, sponsored by the Prairie Grove Christian Church, is part of a home construction ministry.-------for the rest of the story see The Yazoo Herald printed edition or subscribe to the Digital Edition.----------
