Residents ask city to reconsider proposal

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

Although city officials won’t vote on the proposed ordinance change until the  April 8 meeting, a small group of citizens urged the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Monday to reconsider their position.
During a work session last week the board elected to consider extending the operating hours of city night clubs by 30 minutes until 2 a.m. Alcohol sales would still have to cease at midnight, and the new rules would require the property to be completely vacated at closing time.

Ordinance change proposed for night clubs in the city

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Nightclub owners could have an additional 30 minutes to remain open during the weekends, but then it’s lights out.
There was some confusion among local nightclub owners about rules regarding remaining on their property to clean up after hours. However, with a draft amending the current ordinance, everyone must be off the property at 1 a.m. during the week and at 2 a.m. during the weekends.
And all alcohol sales must stop at midnight.
