Compress property donated to city

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

The Federal Compress was donated to the city of Yazoo City this week, pending the owners are given time to clean out any salvageable items.
The Yazoo landmark, located on Water Street, was heavily damaged last year when a fire consumed it. The owners of the property have spent the last several months cleaning the shell of the once bustling agriculture center.
The owners appeared before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen this week, requesting that city leaders accept their donation of the property.

The discussion of mobile homes continued with the Board of Mayor and Aldermen this week as another owner was granted an exception.
The board granted Clarence Hunter an exception to place a mobile home on his Jefferson Street property. He was unable to attend the last board meeting, but due to health issues his wife was present Monday on his behalf.
“With these hardship cases, the person requesting must come before the board,” said Alderman Aubry Brent Jr.
