School report lists numerous alleged violations

By VERNON SIKES
Herald Correspondent

During an audit of the Yazoo City Municipal School District last October, Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) officials uncovered numerous violations of accreditation policies and standards.
As a result of the district being noncompliant with one accreditation policy and 24 of 30 process standards, the Commission on School Accreditation will take action April 4 on a recommendation to downgrade the district's accreditation status from accredited to probation for the 2012-2013 school year.
Due to the volume of material to be covered, The Yazoo Herald will present the findings in each violation in as much detail as possible in upcoming issues. The wording in each policy or standard violation is taken from the audit report.

The culture, language and food may be very different for Father Arokia Savio, who arrived in the United States from South India a couple of years ago.
But the mission of spreading the Gospel and strengthening the faith crosses over every boundary.
“It is a new system of life,” Savio said. “But I hope to keep strengthening the Christian faith.”
Savio, 57, arrived in Yazoo City about a month ago to serve as priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He will also serve a church in Belzoni.
He already feels right at home in Yazoo.
“I find that people are so hospitable and welcoming here in Yazoo,” Savio said. “The city is clean, and people are very social. I am really enjoying it here.”
