State will take over YCHS if test scores do not improve

Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) officials met Monday with certified and non-certified staff at Yazoo City High School (YCHS) to tell them that if this year's state test scores don't improve significantly, “the school will be transformed into a New Start School, and your employment with the local school district shall be terminated.”

When Veda Garner was only a week old, she underwent her first of three open heart surgeries.
She has spent her entire young life in various hospital wards, battling two different congenital heart defects.
But she is a fighter and amazes all with her incredible strength.
And despite all the obstacles and challenges, her mother Morgan Garner looks at her and sees total perfection.
“She is such an amazing baby,” Morgan said. “She has taught me so much about what it means to really love someone more than yourself.”
Morgan, a Yazoo City native,  has stayed by Veda’s side for over 100 days as she continues to recover in a Tennessee hospital. Veda has yet to see her family home but has  remained in a multitude of hospital wards and units since her birth in January.
