Woman leaves no clues to her past

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

She died alone in a rented room, and other than the tragic end no one really knows anything about her story.
Brenda Cardwell, a 56-year-old white female, was found dead in a room she was renting at 913 Ingram Street in Yazoo City.
No one in Yazoo City seems to know much about her, and efforts to locate any family or friends have been unsuccessful.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers has diligently searched for relatives. He has been unable to locate anyone in the community who can provide any useful information, and law enforcement background checks have failed to provide any clues.

The Midway community has a gem in Mrs. Vertie Lee Jones.
The kind lady has served as a pillar at Midway Baptist Church for the past seven decades. Her door is always open for visitors, and she never meets a stranger.
With a quick smile and a hearty laugh, she has touched many lives within her rural community.
At 97 years old, she has quite a story to tell.
“And I thank the Lord for that,” she said, with a smile.
Mrs. Vertie, also known as “Skeet,” was born on June 3, 1915 in Holmes County to Lee Vert and Mattie Burell. When she was only eight years old, the Burell family moved to Sunflower County, close to Indianola.
