Sen. Briggs Hopson visited the Yazoo Lions Club this week to discuss a few changes and other proposals within Legislation.
From district lines to education to finances, Hopson covered a wide spectrum during an informative presentation to local club members.
Redistricting
One major change within Yazoo City in the near future is redistricting lines. The county is currently carved up among three state senators, including Hopson, Buck Clarke and Kenneth Wayne Jones.
That will change to two senators, District 22 and District 23, in the upcoming elections.
The District 23 seat, held by Sen. Jones, will move out of Yazoo County.

The Bible verse echoed through the dining room only moments before Carol Jean Ellis welcomed the community  into her new restaurant. Working on a vision Ellis says was provided to her by God, it only seemed right to name her new business endeavor, Taste A Vision.
Not only is Yazoo’s newest business a restaurant, but Ellis uses her eatery as a place to share the Gospel and bring others closer to the Lord. Waiting and watching, she is there for anyone who simply wants to hear the Good News.

She died alone in a rented room, and other than the tragic end no one really knows anything about her story.
Brenda Cardwell, a 56-year-old white female, was found dead in a room she was renting at 913 Ingram Street in Yazoo City.
No one in Yazoo City seems to know much about her, and efforts to locate any family or friends have been unsuccessful.
Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers has diligently searched for relatives. He has been unable to locate anyone in the community who can provide any useful information, and law enforcement background checks have failed to provide any clues.

Deputies Britt Johnson and Courtney Granderson and Sheriff Jake Sheriff and Chief Deputy Joseph Head with a large amount of cash seized along with marijuana Friday.By JAMIE PATTERSON

Two alleged drug dealers were arrested last week after deputies discovered marijuana in their vehicle.
Yarvin Purvis and Rakhea Andrews were both charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Deputy Sean Echols said the arrests were made by the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department during a safety checkpoint on Highway 49 Friday afternoon.
