Runners and walkers will fill the streets of downtown Yazoo City Oct. 13 to support breast cancer awareness.
A Walk Thru the Zoo, a 5K walk and run that organizers hope will become an annual event, is the newest event scheduled for Yazoo during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  
Melissia Standley and Robin Coleman are working to help establish the event in an effort to provide a fun event to raise funds for a good cause.

Hurricane Isaac brought heavy rainfall and high winds to Yazoo County Wednesday and Thursday, but most importantly for these children, it canceled their outside playtime. Sitting in the window watching it rain at Wee Care Day Care were (from left) Ella Alexander,Gabby Cobb, Alanah Hughes and Donovan Sessions. Wee Care was one of the only area schools or day cares open Thursday in Yazoo County.

Minutes after one city alderman asked to revisit an ordinance concerning pit bulls, a resident complained about being confronted by one.
Ward 4 Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. said the city board needs to revise its ordinance concerning vicious animals, particularly pit bulls.
“We never did respond or discuss a petition in reference to pit bulls,” Brent said, during the open board meeting Monday. “We have not acted on it. We might need to review it and make a decision.”
A petition was presented to the city leaders several months ago about the presence of pit bulls within the community. Action was never taken on the matter.

It’s been several months, and one Yazoo City resident said it’s time to tear down a house on Broadway that is not being kept up to city code.
Sarah Sheffield has been very vocal about the house located at 604 E. Broadway, which has made headlines over the past year.
Complaints of the unkempt property have ranged from it being an eyesore to a health hazard and even a “drug house.”
