Donna Dean was born to write songs.
The Yazoo songwriter has a rich family history of songwriters, performers and musicians.
Her father, James L. Slade, wrote several songs for many of the country legends during the vintage Grand Ole Opry era.
Her mother, Bernice Miller, wrote a song that Donna would later sing as a gospel hymn at church.
She and her brother Darryl and sister Mary were popular within the gospel music circuit with their trio, Mississippi Rain.
And Dean’s musical journey continues with her recently  being selected as winner of the Texaco Country Showdown Songwriting Contest for the month of July. She will continue to the final round of the songwriting competition in November with her song, “Bossman.”
