By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

It’s been several months, and one Yazoo City resident said it’s time to tear down a house on Broadway that is not being kept up to city code.
Sarah Sheffield has been very vocal about the house located at 604 E. Broadway, which has made headlines over the past year.
Complaints of the unkempt property have ranged from it being an eyesore to a health hazard and even a “drug house.”

The vines cover her from time to time these days, and the water bed beneath is usually dry.
But she still proudly stands  as an icon of a past era, serving as a reminder of Yazoo’s rich history.

A Yazoo City predatory child rapist was convicted last week and was sentenced to 120 years in prison.
Julian D. Sims, 28, of 911 E. Fifth St., was convicted Friday on gratification of lust, kidnapping, statutory rape and sexual battery charges.
Akillie Malone Oliver, district attorney for Yazoo, Holmes and Humphreys County, said Sims’ conviction reaffirms her stand to seek justice for all crime victims, especially the young and helpless.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Jannie Lewis after a three-day jury trial and a unanimous jury vote of guilty to each of the four charges in the indictment. Sims was also sentenced as a habitual offender.

A Show of Support

With hamburgers on the grill, a silent auction featuring everything from hunting gear to artwork and a skeet shoot under way, Ad Martin had a hard time deciding what to do first at the Saturday benefit for Dewayne “Boogar” Williams. Many Yazooans came out to support the veteran who was injured in an auto accident in May while at Camp Shelby. More photos from the event appear on pages 10-11.With hamburgers on the grill, a silent auction featuring everything from hunting gear to artwork and a skeet shoot under way, Ad Martin had a hard time deciding what to do first at the Saturday benefit for Dewayne “Boogar” Williams.
