A Show of Support

With hamburgers on the grill, a silent auction featuring everything from hunting gear to artwork and a skeet shoot under way, Ad Martin had a hard time deciding what to do first at the Saturday benefit for Dewayne “Boogar” Williams. Many Yazooans came out to support the veteran who was injured in an auto accident in May while at Camp Shelby. Public hearings set on city and county tax hikes

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

Tax increases are in store for both city and county residents under current budget proposals.
Citizens will have an opportunity to comment on those plans during the first week of September.
Yazoo County plans to increase the ad valorem tax millage rate by 2.9 mills with an additional increase of .88 mills for the Yazoo County School District for a total of 3.78 mills.
The county currently operates on a budget with a projected revenue of $14,246,683 with 63.48 percent (9,750,940) of that revenue coming from ad valorem taxes.  For the next fiscal year, Yazoo County has proposed a budget with projected revenue of $15,016,038. Of that amount, 64.93 percent ($9,750,940) would come from ad valorem taxes.  (More details are available on page 14).
