Yazoo City High School welcomes students of all area schools Saturday for a night of sharing faith and encouragement.
Organizers also hope the event will be an opportunity to demonstrate the good things that Fellowship of Christian Athletes is bringing to our local youth.
Night of Worship is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Yazoo City High Gym. The event will feature music along with testimonies.

Marsha Bradley will retire next month after 40 years of service to the community at Yazoo Insurance Agency.
Bradley, a Yazoo County native, has been a familiar face at the local insurance company. She will be greatly missed by the staff and customers she has worked with for the past four decades.
“As many wise men would tell you, ‘anyone can be replaced,’” said Bill McGraw, company owner. “But no one can replace 40 years of professional excellence. We wish Marsha the best of luck, good health and good fortune in her retirement.”

Yazoo resident Mary Houston was glad to see the city tear down a dilapidated home next to her property, but she says the mess left behind has been an even bigger nuisance. By JAMIE PATTERSON

A Yazoo City woman said she is disgusted with a vacant lot next to her home that is covered with trash and rats from a recent demolishment.
Mary Houston, who lives on Madison Street, said the city has fallen down on its job of cleaning up the remains from a house that was demolished a few weeks ago.
“The city is not doing their job,” Houston said, looking over the vacant lot. “People need to be aware of this.”
The house that was formerly located on the lot had been an eyesore for several years. Extensions and other accommodations were made to the property owners in an effort to clean up the property. But city leaders put their foot down a few months ago and ordered for the home to be demolished.

State Sen. Briggs Hopson updated the Yazoo Lions Club Thursday on highlights of this year’s Legislative session. He was the guest of Lion Barry Bridgforth.By JAMIE PATTERSON

Sen. Briggs Hopson visited the Yazoo Lions Club this week to discuss a few changes and other proposals within Legislation.
From district lines to education to finances, Hopson covered a wide spectrum during an informative presentation to local club members.
Redistricting
One major change within Yazoo City in the near future is redistricting lines. The county is currently carved up among three state senators, including Hopson, Buck Clarke and Kenneth Wayne Jones.
That will change to two senators, District 22 and District 23, in the upcoming elections.
The District 23 seat, held by Sen. Jones, will move out of Yazoo County.
