A jail guard was arrested this week after he allegedly smuggled contraband into the local regional jail.
Thomas C. Jew, of Tchula, was charged with smuggling contraband into the Yazoo County Regional Facility on June 4.
Chief Investigator Tommy Irvine, with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, said the arrest was made in a recent attempt to deter jail smuggling.
“In an effort to curve the flow of contraband going in and out of the jail, the warden instructed some guards to do a pat down of employees coming into work that morning,” Irvine said. “A hard object was found on (Jew).”
