The Yazoo County School Board unanimously approved a third Mississippi High School Graduation Pathway that, hopefully, will assist in cutting down on the drop-out rate.
Labeled the District Option, students will be able to graduate with 21 credits, which will meet admission requirements for two-year colleges. Students choosing the District Option would receive diplomas and, after completing a two-year college, could attend a four-year college or university.

The Yazoo County Board of Supervisors approved a budget Monday that will increase property taxes 3.78 mills countywide by a 3-2 vote.
District 4 Supervisor Jayne Dew and District 1 Supervisor Caleb Rivers voted against approving the budget.
District 2 Supervisor David Berry, District 3 Supervisor Willie Wright and District 5 Supervisor Cobie Collins voted for approval.

CF Industries has donated $30,000 to the city of Yazoo City to be used within the parks and recreation department and at Ricks Memorial Library.
During such hard economic times, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen expressed their gratitude to the local industry for its generosity.
Steve Moore, general manager of CF Industries, said the company was happy to give back to the community.
“This is a great community, and we are proud to be a part of it,” Moore said.
Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. and Dr. Jack Varner first approached CF Industries about what the city and local company could do in a partnership for some of the city’s most important needs. Looking towards the children within the Yazoo community, the parks and recreation department and Ricks Memorial Library were at the top of the list.
