Ronda Rich, whose Dixie Divas column regularly appears in The Yazoo Herald, will be in Yazoo City Oct. 6 to sign copies of her latest book, There’s A Better Day A-Comin’.
Rich will appear at Downtown Marketplace from 4-6 p.m.
The author says she is looking forward to returning to Yazoo to meet old friends and make some new ones.

Police capture escaped inmate within hours

An escaped inmate was captured within five hours thanks to investigators pounding the pavement.
Allen McGee was charged with felony escape.
Capt. Willie Hubbard said McGee was in jail on two counts of a business burglary and an attempted business burglary when he escaped from jail around 3 p.m. Saturday.
“He managed to break the lock of his jail cell,” Hubbard said.

Jones suggests pit bull ban in historic district

Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. has begged the city board to address a breed specific dog ordinance within the city for months.
But Alderman Clifton Jones has been the first to offer a suggestion this week concerning pit bulls in Yazoo City.
A petition appeared before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen several months ago, requesting that vicious pit bulls within the city be addressed. Brent has, so far, been the only board member who has supported that petition.

Progress made at Shady Lane

One city leader said some progress has been made with the recent complaints surrounding the Shady Lane Apartment Complex.
Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. announced during the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting this week that he has spoken with the property owners of the local apartment complex, and he is happy with their correspondence.
