Man killed in ATV accident

A Phoenix man was killed during an ATV accident this week.
Jimmy Hancock, 56, was discovered Wednesday morning near Bear Creek Farms, where he was a caretaker.

Three arrested on meth charges

Three Yazoo County residents were arrested this week on their way to make methamphetamine.
Jimmy Eugene Banks, Melissa Potter and Kimberly Surface were all charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of precursors to manufacture methamphetamine.
The three were arrested Wednesday on Highway 3.
“Officers were notified by a local business that these subjects had purchased items commonly used for making crystal meth,” Chief Eric Snow said.

Her stories are forever etched upon the stones that float among her rolling hills.
And her sacred ground holds the rich history of Yazoo and the people who shaped this small community.
Glenwood Cemetery is a chest full of legends, memories and tales that continue to attract visitors and locals through her historic gates.
The local cemetery was recently voted the “second spookiest cemetery” in the United States. But many Yazoo children already knew that with their childhood journeys beyond Glenwood’s entrance during the late evening hours.
But the stories within her gates are more than just ghost stories to appeal to visitors. The true characters in their final resting places have stories that go well beyond the chains of a legendary witch.
Glenwood holds the story of Yazoo.

Nine candidates vying for District 4 county seat

Nine candidates have qualified for the Yazoo County’s District 4 supervisor seat.
With qualification deadline on Sept. 7, the candidates will now be vying for the position on the general ballot in November.
The seat has been held by Jayne Dew after the Board of Supervisors appointed her following the death of her husband, Ed Dew. Ed Dew held the seat for two decades.
Circuit Clerk Robert Coleman said there will be no primary election for the county seat. All candidates will appear on the same ballot during the general election on Nov. 6.
