The Ricks Memorial Library will be waiving late fees this month in exchange for donations to the Manna House.
“We have a lot of late fees because people let the return date go by them,” said Miranda Purvis, with the library. “This is a way for us to work together with the public, as well as the Manna House.”
Until Nov. 20, the library will waive fines for food. Each item donated will be equivalent to $1 removed from the records.
The Manna House, located across the street from the library, serves as a food ministry to the needy within the community.
“We wanted to give back since we are all located in the heart of the community here,” Purvis said. “A lot of the Manna House patrons come in and out of the library. We wanted to do something for them.”

A Yazoo High student was taken to KDH by ambulance after being assaulted by other students Friday.By JAMIE PATTERSON

A woman attending a parent conference at the local high school was later involved with an altercation among students.
Sonya Reed was charged with disorderly conduct, breach of peace.
The incident began at Yazoo City High School last Friday when Reed was inside the school, attending a parent conference with the principal.
Four juveniles, two of which were Reed’s daughters, assaulted a female victim during the conference at another location on campus.

A city alderman has filed a lawsuit against the city of Yazoo City involving a recent appointment to the Public Service Commission.
Ward 3 Alderman Clifton Jones filed the suit in Chancery Court on July 9. Since then, the case has moved to Circuit Court, with the most recent filing on Oct. 19.
The suit stems from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointing a new member to the Public Service Commission board. Jones claims ordinances were not followed, and the board’s appointment should be declared invalid.
