A strip of Broadway populated with nightclubs and pool halls has one city alderman ready to shut down the party.

The bridge on Anding Oil City Road will remain closed until a cracked cap is replaced.
County officials hope the repair will be completed within the week as they wait for the cap piece to arrive for replacement.
The aging bridge that spans across a railroad line has been a source of concern in the county for some time. Engineering reports have indicated that the bridge needs to be replaced with a modern structure, and the narrow width of the bridge can create a dangerous situation for two-way traffic.

Ricks Memorial Library is buzzing with activity this summer as it welcomes a variety of children’s reading programs and many other resources for adults.
In an effort to keep children interested in reading during the lazy days of summer, children’s director Renee Hawkins has planned several activities and guest speakers over the next few weeks.
“A lot of children don’t even know the library is here,” Hawkins said. “These programs will introduce them to things they are not use to. You will always read, and it will always remain with you. It can never be taken away.”

Dixie Youth Baseball has been an American staple for generations.
For years, it has dominated the youth athletic scene in Yazoo City, but recently a new competitor to America’s pastime has risen: Dixie Softball.
Dixie Softball was founded in 1968 in the small town of Minor, Ala., and was expanded throughout the south in 1975.
Up until 2008, Yazoo City’s softball league was purely community driven. Local teams played each other weekly until a champion was crowned.
But all of that changed in 2008.
Second year Yazoo City Softball League Commissioner Mark Williams had the league franchised with Dixie Softball. The franchisement meant one thing – expansion.
