Student assaulted at school

A woman attending a parent conference at the local high school was later involved with an altercation among students.
Sonya Reed was charged with disorderly conduct, breach of peace.
The incident began at Yazoo City High School last Friday when Reed was inside the school, attending a parent conference with the principal.
Four juveniles, two of which were Reed’s daughters, assaulted a female victim during the conference at another location on campus.

Jones sues fellow city over PSC nomination

A city alderman has filed a lawsuit against the city of Yazoo City involving a recent appointment to the Public Service Commission.
Ward 3 Alderman Clifton Jones filed the suit in Chancery Court on July 9. Since then, the case has moved to Circuit Court, with the most recent filing on Oct. 19.
The suit stems from the Board of Mayor and Aldermen appointing a new member to the Public Service Commission board. Jones claims ordinances were not followed, and the board’s appointment should be declared invalid.

Reward offered for info in horse shooting case

A Yazoo County family who discovered their horse dead from a gunshot wound to the head is offering a reward for information on the shooter.
David and Kim Woods were devastated when they found their horse dead on their Bentonia land on Oct. 19.
