Felon charged with breaking into vehicle

A convicted felon was arrested after he allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole a handgun.
Kenneth Mayberry, 41, of 215 Walnut Circle, was charged with grand larceny of an automobile, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm.
Maj. Tilmon Clifton said Mayberry was inside a bar on Broadway when a woman noticed he held her car keys in his hand.

The smell of marijuana was in the air, and the passenger had cocaine powder on her clothes.
It was immediately evident to officers that they would be making a drug arrest, but they were surprised to discover how many drugs were on board.

The investigation continues as to why a window of a police patrol car was busted Wednesday.
Chief Eric Snow said an officer was traveling down Dr. Martin Luther King Drive when the back rear window of his patrol car was suddenly busted.

Bentonia-Gibbs students improve reading scores

Bentonia-Gibbs School Principal Martha Hanna told the Yazoo County School Board this week that reading growth levels at her school have improved dramatically since the beginning of the school year.
The school's first-graders were at Level 3 when the school year began.
