Mayor says parkway construction finally in sight

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

The Willie Morris Parkway will feature some of the nicest streets in Yazoo County, but the road to construction has been filled with bumps and potholes.
The parkway has been hailed as the key to the most significant development opportunities for Yazoo City in decades, but the project has dragged on for so long that some wonder if it will ever really happen.
Mayor McArthur Straughter said a project of this size takes time, but he is convinced it will be well worth the wait.
“This project has been in the works since I took office,” Straughter said. “The pace has been frustratingly slow at times, but this is going to be a great thing for Yazoo City.”

The elements seem to work together.
Thousands of acres of freshly plowed Delta fields, mile after mile of roads that lay flat and wind around a lake that looks more like a river, the crisp fall morning, the generations-old home that once belonged to a family of considerable standing … and Savannah, the shepherd mix who apparently never meets a stranger and possesses the hospitality of a true Southern gentleman.
A truly fertile climate for literary genius. A perfect place for avowed nomad and writer Richard Grant.
