Yazoo law enforcement legend Roosevelt “Wolf Lake” Hudson died last week at the age of 82.
The Yazoo County native served his community for over 30 years in a law enforcement career that made him a local legend.
“We have lost a good public servant,” said E.O. “Buddy” Passons, a former Yazoo County sheriff. “He was a true friend and a gentleman, a man’s man.”
Hudson was born on July 26, 1930 on El Dorado Plantation in Yazoo County to Rev. Steve and Minnie Pearl Hudson. He was the third of seven children.
After graduating from the Yazoo City Training School, Hudson joined the United States Army and fought in the  Korean War.

County hopes to make up for tax increases

Cobie Collins said he would like to find a way to make up the loss Yazoo County employees are seeing in their paychecks following a two percent payroll tax increase.
Collins, president of the Board of Supervisors, said the tax hits lower income workers the hardest, and many county employees are in that category.
“We’re not paying them much to begin with,” Collins said. “It hurts them, and I would like to find a way to replace that money.”
Collins said it’s already difficult for the county to keeps its best employees because they can often find better paying jobs in the private sector.

Sales of guns and ammunition have skyrocketed following the president’s proposals on gun control.
Many people waited over an hour to get inside the gun show at the Trademart in Jackson. Sales have also increased dramatically here in Yazoo City.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Sean King, at Delta Ace Hardware. “This is the first time we’ve every experienced all of our suppliers being out of certain kinds of ammunition.”
