Cross will soon shine once more above Bentonia

By JASON PATTERSON
Editor & Publisher

Many Bentonia residents were thrilled to see the new cross light up Wednesday evening, but that was just a test.
After an unsuccessful test on Tuesday, the cross facing north worked the next time. There were still problems with the side facing south, however.
“Only part of the south cross was shining, but we’re going to send our tower climber back up as soon as possible to fix the problem,” said Greg Horne, who helped start the effort to erect the crosses. “When we get all of the bugs worked out we will have a dedication ceremony, and the crossess will be visible every night.”

Mr. George Collins has seen both sides of the coin when it comes to life.
He has had his share of challenges and obstacles in a different era. Yet he was able to remain optimistic and determined to do what was right.
Through the years, he has remained a humble and kind person who hopes to inspire young people to take advantage of the sacrifices of his generation.
“I hope that young people just do what is right,” he said. “Do the job that is asked of you.”

Three former athletes were inducted into Manchester Academy’s newly established Athletic Hall of Fame.
Harvey Luby, Angie Hearst Edgar and Michael McGraw were the first class to be inducted into the group last Saturday during the school’s Grow Green and Gold fundraiser.
“The Manchester Board of Directors established the Hall of Fame to honor its best athletes and help highlight our school history,” said Henry Barbour, board member. “It is a high honor for these three athletes to be selected in this first Hall of Fame class because the board considered athletes from over a 44 year school history.”
