Blackledge named new sports editor

John Blackledge joined The Yazoo Herald staff this week as the new sports editor.
A Sandersville native, Blackledge earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications and History from William Carey University in Hattiesburg. He also earned an associate’s degree from Jones County Junior College.
Blackledge began his journalism career at a small weekly sports publication before joining the Laurel Leader Call as a sports writer. A year later, he joined The Review of Jones County. He also worked in sports radio.
Blackledge is excited to join The Herald staff and hopes to bring new life to local sports coverage.

All American cheerleader performs in London parade

Ann Ryan Ragland was recently named an All-American cheerleader and earned the opportunity to perform at the New Year’s Day Parade in London, England. Anna Ryan Ragland’s talent as a cheerleader has brought her recognition outside of Yazoo City.
It was 4,507 miles outside of Yazoo  City to be exact.
The 15-year-old sophomore at Manchester Academy performed at London’s New Year’s Day Parade after being selected from thousands of other cheerleaders from across the country.
“It was interesting to see the places you have only read about in history books,” Ragland said. “It was strange to actually see it in person.”

Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in arresting the suspects who burglarized a local pharmacy.
Vanjon’s Pharmacy, located on Fifteenth Street, was broken into last Friday.
“The suspects gained entry into the front door of the business,” said Capt. Willie Hubbard. “An assortment of medications and money were stolen.”

Police search for felon

Investigators continue to search for a convicted felon believed to be on the run in Yazoo City.
Maj. Tilmon Clifton said Willie Willis is wanted by the police department on residential burglary, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charges.
