A good cause will bring out all sorts of people...even men dressed as women.
The auditorium of the Yazoo Community Complex was filled with laughter, tears and hope last weekend as the first Miss Yazoo Womanless Pageant was held in honor of Mrs. Delphene Dees.
The pageant was organized to raise funds for Mrs. Dees, who is battling cancer. Organizers said about 600 people attended the event, raising $9,088.

City to repair broken storm sirens

It will cost the city about $3,000 to repair the broken weather sirens located within Yazoo City.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen discussed the costs behind repairing and maintaining the six sirens that are scattered throughout the city during its open board meeting Monday afternoon.
“All of the sirens around the city are not working,” said Mayor McArthur Straughter. “Technicians had to come in and run tests. The sirens then had to be sent back to the manufacturer.”
Many citizens voiced concern over the broken sirens, particularly during the recent severe weather. With no warning signals, many were left uneasy during the storms.

Railroad to repair crossings in city

Railroad officials said repairs to track crossings that have caused damage to some vehicles will begin within a couple of weeks.
Brodie LaBuick, with Canadian National Railway, appeared before the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during its open meeting Monday afternoon. It was the first time the current board has publically met with a railroad official about the numerous complaints from citizens with several railroad crossings in the city.

Work set for Woodlawn Avenue

Thanks to leftover bond money, a troublesome road in Ward 2 will be repaired.
Alderman Dr. Jack Varner brought the state of Woodlawn Avenue to the attention of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen during its open meeting this week.
The road has become a stretch of muddy dirt that runs down into other roadways within the Yazoo City subdivision.

Construction at county schools near completion

“It's probably going to be a couple more months (before it's completed),” said Assistant Superintendent Mickey Rivers said when asked about the construction on the county school district's new office building and classrooms. “The date that they gave me was going to be May.”
