One Yazoo City employee says the biggest problem with the city’s operations is interference by elected officials.
Dick Stricklin, who has worked for the city for nearly four years, said elected officials are placing friends on the city payroll and refusing to allow department heads to hold those “friends” accountable when they fail to do their jobs.

Coach Peter Boston was a positive influence on many Yazooans during his coaching career. By JAMIE PATTERSON

His name is Peter Boston.
“It’s Boston, like the baked beans,” he says, with a smile, and most people call him “Coach.”
He’s a man who needs no introduction in these parts.
Boston is a local legend who has coached generations of Yazoo children, including many who went onto to become professional athletes.
He never meets a stranger, has a contagious smile and a wonderful sense of humor.
Stories of his kindness and care come from all walks of life around the community.
He’s a humble man who rarely talks about himself. But others have plenty of good things to say about him.

It was a sight all too familiar for Jaslyn Snow.
Damaged buildings, hectic crowds and a sense of panic seemed to pass over the city of Hattiesburg after a destructive tornado ripped through its main hub Sunday evening.
For Snow, who is a student at the University of Southern Mississippi, images of her hometown after the tornado of April 2010 ran through her mind.
But there was also a sense of hope.

Despite concern from one city leader, another cellular phone tower will be shooting up behind a local business in Yazoo City.
C Spire will be constructing an 180-foot tower behind Adams Hardware on Broadway. The site was approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen last year, but a few modifications required the construction to be revisited.
The board approved the 153-foot variance request Monday afternoon during an open meeting.
