Charles Steven Flemming will be joining the Benton Academy family as its new headmaster for the upcoming school year.
With the forthcoming retirement of Jamie Carr, who has served as headmaster for almost 30 years, Flemming will be arriving at the academy on June 1 to assume the position.
Flemming, a Cruger native, is confident the transition will go smoothly and plans to continue to build upon the school’s success.

Cross will soon shine once more above Bentonia

Many Bentonia residents were thrilled to see the new cross light up Wednesday evening, but that was just a test.
After an unsuccessful test on Tuesday, the cross facing north worked the next time. There were still problems with the side facing south, however.
“Only part of the south cross was shining, but we’re going to send our tower climber back up as soon as possible to fix the problem,” said Greg Horne, who helped start the effort to erect the crosses. “When we get all of the bugs worked out we will have a dedication ceremony, and the crossess will be visible every night.”

Mr. George Collins has seen both sides of the coin when it comes to life.
He has had his share of challenges and obstacles in a different era. Yet he was able to remain optimistic and determined to do what was right.
Through the years, he has remained a humble and kind person who hopes to inspire young people to take advantage of the sacrifices of his generation.
“I hope that young people just do what is right,” he said. “Do the job that is asked of you.”

Woman charged with running over boyfriend

A domestic dispute turned Grand Avenue into a hectic scene with car crashes and a hit and run over the weekend.
One of the victims remains in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle driven by his girlfriend.
Amber Grayer was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, no driver’s license, no insurance and leaving the scene of an accident.
