Girls Softball becoming increasingly competitive

Brad Wells, pictured with his Alfa softball team, says the level of competition in Yazoo girls softball has increased dramatically during the nine years that he has been coaching. Dixie Youth Baseball has been an American staple for generations.
For years, it has dominated the youth athletic scene in Yazoo City, but recently a new competitor to America’s pastime has risen: Dixie Softball.
Dixie Softball was founded in 1968 in the small town of Minor, Ala., and was expanded throughout the south in 1975.
Up until 2008, Yazoo City’s softball league was purely community driven. Local teams played each other weekly until a champion was crowned.

City may improve storm siren system

By JAMIE PATTERSON
Managing Editor

Yazoo City’s weather warning system is functioning properly, but there may be some weaknesses in the coverage area.
Many citizens have voiced concerns over the weather sirens located at various locations within the community. Some have said a few don’t even work at all, while others claim they are barely audible.
Minor Norman, a representative with the  company that maintains the city’s storm sirens, told city leaders last week that all the city’s problems come down to technical concerns.
